As digital marketers, we spend more time than we would like to admit ensuring that all of the information regarding our clients online is 100% correct. However, this is for a very good reason, and the outcome can often be the difference between sitting on the mid pages of search engine results and climbing all the way to the top of page one.

Keeping the consistency of all of your NAP (name, address and phone number) variations the same may sound like an easy feat, but discovering all of the examples is a long and complex task. Companies are often mentioned hundreds of times online, linked to not only current profile information, but also to older phone numbers, addresses and company names that have not been removed or edited.

In order to find all of the variations of your company details, you must first gather all of the details that have ever linked to your company. All landline and mobile phone numbers, addresses, old company names, they need to be taken into account. They must then be searched. This extensive task can be carried out by a third party piece of software, or you can manually search for listings that contain your company details on search engines.

Expect to find a lot of listings, also expect that this will be an ongoing task, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Ensure that every listing you find has exactly the same details as the ones listed on your website, as this will streamline your online presence. Requesting to have listings changed can take a while, and the changes may not be made immediately, but the overall impact of taking control of your business presence will have ongoing positive ramifications.

Make sure that you keep a record of all of the listings that you have found, noting if and when changes have been made. Overall, you should start to see your online ranking grow, especially if citation alignments are completed in tandem with other SEO techniques.
