With over 200 million users and up to 40% more user engagement that Facebook and Twitter, it has never been more essential to get to grips with Instagram. Thanks to it’s visual aspect, it is much easier to draw your audience in and reach out to new followers. It doesn’t take much to improve your Instagram standing, with a few simple changes, you can grow your following quickly and efficiently. We have put together a few tips to help you gain the quality followers you need.

Use hashtags: Visitors use hashtags to search Instagram for accounts and posts that interest them, so by tagging your images you are opening up doors to new followers. It also allows you to see what people in similar industry are posting, what users find interesting and what length of caption works best. We tend to say that less is more when it comes to hashtags, use ones which are relevant to you, but don’t go crazy!

Post regularly: Basically, it works. 57% of the world’s top 100 social brands post on Instagram at least once a week, and 28% post at least five times a week. The proof is in the pudding, with brands like Nike having over 21 million followers.

Make it relevant: Link your posts to the time of year or the location that you are in. Hitting your users when they are already thinking about these things makes them more likely to engage with you on Instagram.

Run contests: Contests and giveaways are a call to action and bring in a huge amount of interaction. They can help build you audience and gain new, relevant followers. We have seen this work over and over again, with posts doubling or even tripling the number of likes they get thanks to the competition.

Promote: Promoting your Instagram on other social media sites gives followers of your other accounts a chance to discover your Instagram account. If you have good Twitter and Facebook followings then this is a key step for you.
