As technology continues to develop, we are able to offer our clients more and more flexibility and scope when it comes to developing marketing campaigns. We are open to new and changing digital marketing channels, but do we truly understand what is running in the background to make our ideas come to life?

Code is what the majority of our great marketing campaigns stand on. Whether it’s a website, email, or app, each of these require incredible coding skills to get it looking and functioning exactly to the clients requirements.

The benefits of understanding code for marketers today are growing with every passing day. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Understanding the basis of coding means that you know what it takes to put together a campaign. You can set realistic goals with your clients without worrying that you are promising them too much or too little. It will also help you in the role of project manager, meaning you can keep up with the developers and ensuring you stick to tight deadlines.
  • By understanding basic HTML and CSS, you have the knowledge to make those annoying little changes that often hold up web developers. If a paragraph of text is not formatting the way you think it should, or if an embedded video is not the right size, you can save a lot of time (and budget) by solving the problem yourself. The internet is full of useful tips, simply Google anything you are unsure of.
  • There is no reason why you should know as much about code as the web developers you work with. Leave the specialised tasks to the professionals. However, getting to grips with how a basic webpage looks in HTML, or how meta information fits into the coding process, will only stand you in good stead for future projects.

If you would like to practice coding for yourself, we suggest you take a look at W3 Schools and Code Academy, both are fantastic resources for beginners!
